19 million infected in the 🇺🇸
Half of these are people between the ages of 15-24
What is a bacterial STIs?
Simple organisms that can only be seen with microscope, some invade human and multiply to cause illness
Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis
What is chlamydia?
Sexual contact and mother to child contact
Treatment with antibiotics
What are symptoms of chlamydia?
White or colorless discharge
Silent disease as symptoms are often absent or mild
Painful urination
Pelvic pain
Complications rare in men but can lead to sterility in women
What is gonorrhea?

As disease progress antibiotics stop but do not reverse damage
What is the primary stage?
10 days - 3 month
Small, red, painless pimple that becomes a chancre (canker)
What is the secondary stage?
8 weeks after chancre appears Rash, especially on palms and feet Fever Headache Hair loss
What is the tertiary stage?
After rash disappear
May attack heart, brain, skin, bones, spinal cord
Causes deafness, mental illness, paralysis, etc
What are viral STIs?
Smaller than bacteria, reproduce in living cells and destroy them
HPV, Herpes, Hepatitis, HIV
What is HPV?
Sexual contact, mother to child
Not curable, sometimes body can eliminate it
Warts treated with acid or creams
Can be frozen or burned off skin
What are symptoms of HPV?
Within 3 months genital warts
Some people may not have symptoms
Development of warts in throat
Common cause of cervical cancer as well as vaginal, penal, and throat cancer
What is herpes?

Not curable, doctors can treat sores symptom
What are symptoms of herpes?
Flu-like symptoms after exposure Painful urination Itching Development of blister that progresses to painful open sore or ulcer After 4-15 days ulcers heal but reoccur

What are symptoms of Hepatitis B?
Two weeks to six months Fatigue and flu-like symptoms Jaundice Dark urine May exhibit no symptoms Prolonged lead to liver failure & death

Up to 10 yrs without symptoms
Virus destroys CD4+ and T cells which weaken immune system
Flu-like symptoms within weeks of infection
AIDS is late stage of HIV

What is scabies?

What are symptoms of scabies?
Mite burrows under skin
