What is the denial stage?
Refusal to believe the loss occurred.

Why does denial occur?
Initial protective stage to help the person come to terms with their loss.

Emotions that occurs as a result of helplessness and loss of control
- Blaming yourself or others - Restlessness
What is the bargaining stage?
Return of the lost person or thing in exchange for something else
- Avoiding the truth
What is the depression stage?
Hopelessness, isolation, and despair
Why is the depression stage important?
It is an important stage of grieving.
Must be careful to not let it be overwhelming and long-lasting
What is the acceptance stage?
Learning how to cope with loss
Pain is not gone, but manageable
Returning sense of control and hope
