Safety/Turbine Aux Cooling Flashcards
What are the SACS pump trips?
Low D/P (34.3#) (Bypass 30 sec on pump start)
LOP
Bus Differential Lockout
Bus Overcurrent Lockout
What signals automatically start the A&B SACS pumps only?
LOCA Level 2 (-38” or 1.68#)
RB High Rad (1x10-3uci/cc)
RF High Rad (2x10-3uci/cc)
Manual PCIS
What signals automatically start all SACS pumps?
LOCA Level 1 (-129” or 1.68#) (T-45 Seconds)
LOP (T-45 Seconds)
Low flow Op Loop (<9,900 gpm) - starts alt train STBY Pump
Note: Associated Chilled Water Pump Auto Start: if respective CW pump is I/S, when SACS pump placed in auto, it will start that pump
What causes the TACS Supply and Retention Isolation valves to auto close?
LOCA Level 1 (-129” or 1.68#)
LOP
LO-LO-LO Expansion Tank Level*
Respective Pump Stop/Trip (Ex. A->A, but not A AND C … Can be Overridden)
*Causes low flow in TACS which will align it to STBY loop
What causes the TACS Supply and Retention Isolation valves to auto open?
Low Flow in the Opposite Loop (w/pump in Auto)
What automatic actuations are associated with the SACS heat exchanger inlet valves?
The valves AUTO OPEN when their associated SACS pump is started, regardless of whether the pump control switch is in AUTO or MANUAL
There are no AUTO CLOSE features associated with these valves.
What happens to the SACS pumps in the isolating loop when operations are shifting loops due to low flow?
In the event of a pump start due to low flow in the opposite loop, the pumps in the loop which is isolating will automatically swap from the auto mode to the manual mode.
What causes FPC & PCIG Cross Connects to Auto Isolate?
Loca Level 1 (-129” or 1.68#) (A/B CS Signal)
LOP
Associated Expansion Tank Lo-Lo-Lo Level
What occurs on a SACS exp tank Lo-Lo-Lo signal?
-Isolates affected TACS loop which will cause a low flow in TACS. This will start the standby pump in the alternate loop and open the alternate loop TACS supply and return isolation valves.
-Additionally, the cooling cross-connects for FPC and PCIG close(if they are open)

Describe the operations of the SACS HX bypass valves and what they do.
2 valves in series – maintain SACS outlet temp
o 2457s are normally full open and will close at 88F
o 2517s throttle to maintain HX outlet 72F (Close @ 88F)
o Valves must be reset if close on high temp.
o Both valves F.C. on a loss of power or air
What is unique about the TACS turbine generator supply isolation valve?
- Cannot be closed unless the turbine is tripped. Sensed by low air pressure downstream of air relay dump valves.
- Auto open on turbine reset if closed.
- Controls cooling to *(see stars on TACS cooling list)
When do the RHR pump seal and motor cooling water supply valves auto open?
RHR start
What causes makeup to SACS to isolate?
Hi conductivity in the demineralizer output isolates M/U water. It will also isolate on excess flow of 44 gpm (safety related – non safety related interface).
