Main Turbine Lube Oil - .5 Flashcards
What are the conditions that will auto start the Motor Suction Pump?
If it is in Auto and there is a low pressure in the suction of the Main Shaft Oil Pump (10#) as sensed in the reservoir.
When does the Turbine Gear Oil Pump Auto start?
It is the B/U to the MSOP and auto starts on either:
- Low MSOP Disch pressure (190#), normally 225-250#)
- Low bearing Supply pressure (15#).
- Immediate AC powered B/U to MSOP.
Describe the operation of the Lift Pumps.
- Always placed in service when <900 RPM.
- Auto Starts (In Auto):
- TGOP running (TGOP disch. pressure >10#), AND
- > 1# suction pressure.
- Automatically trips on low suction pressure (1#) and must be reset locally prior to restarting.
- If there is any resistance when rotating the T handle to clear the strainer, notify maintenance. The strainer might be plugged.
Describe the operation of the EBOP.
DC powered. Will run upon failure of the TGOP, and is the B/U for the MSOP.
When does the Turbo TOC trip?
It will trip on low oil flow or line filter plugged (15”HgA).
Which other system does MLO system supply oil to?
H2 seal oil system. Also acts as the cooling medium.
What is the flow path for supply oil to the MSOP?
Shaft driven oil supplies the oil driven booster pump(ODBP) which supplies the MSOP when <95% rated turbine speed.
When ODBP discharge pressure drops below 10psig than the motor suction pump(MSP) provides oil pressure to the MSOP
What does the Booster Baffle Valve do?
It controls booster pressure and flow by admitting oil to the nozzle of the ODBP and then the header. Opening the valve will result in a higher header pressure and a large increase in ODBP disch pressure. (BBV controls system pressure.)
What does the Booster Baffle Bypass Valve do?
Bypasses oil from the MSOP an discharges to the bearing header. Opening valve increases bearing header pressure and decreases ODBP disch pressure. (BBBV controls system flow.)
What does the Booster Baffle Bypass Valve do?
Bypasses oil from the MSOP an discharges to the bearing header. Opening valve
Describe some MTLO Reservoir features.
- There are door panels on top of reservoir. They are not secured in the event gases ignite in the tank. This minimizes damage to the tank.
- Bottom is sloped to allow sediment to flow to one side.
Describe the MSOP operation(ie normal operating pressure and flow path).
It is supplied with oil at 15-25# from the ODBP when turbine speed is >95% rated speed. When turbine speed is <95%, oil is supplied by the Motor Suction Pump.
What are the automatic starts associated with the TGOP?
Starts automatically on low operating oil pressure (190 psig) or low bearing header pressure (15 psig)
When will the EBOP automatically start?
If in auto the EBOP automatically starts if there is a low MSOP discharge pressure (180 psig) and the TGOP is not running as sensed by low discharge pressure (10 psig).
What automatic operations are associated with the lift pumps in the main turbine lube oil system?
If in automatic operation they start when the TGOP is energized and discharge pressure is >10 psig.
If in operation they trip if suction pressure drops below 1psig
