Oncogenic Viruses Flashcards
What viruses are indirectly linked to HCC?
HBV and HBC
What virus is linked with Kaposi sarcoma?
HHV-8
What virus is linked with cervical carcinoma?
HPV
What is the most common viral associated cancer in males?
Liver Cancer
What is the most common viral associated cancer in females?
Cervical Cancer
What are the high risk HPV types?
16, 18, 31 and 33
What are the low risk HPV types?
6 and 11
What are the E genes of HPV used for?
The E “early” genes are transcribed shortly after basal keratinocytes are infected - E6 and E7 are the most important as inactivators
What phase do Rb and p53 act at?
G1-S Checkpoint
Why are HPVs 16, 18, 31 and 33 “high – risk”, while other HPVs are “low‐risk” for cancer?
They make E6 and E7 to inhibit tumor suppressor proteins
When will the HPV vaccine be ineffective?
Ineffective if patient already has CIN
Imiquimod MOA
Synthetic TLR7 agonist that induces proinflammatory cytokines, notably interferons, which attract antiviral effector cells to destroy warts
Cidofovir MOA
Cidofovir is a nucleoside analog that blocks DNA polymerases; standard use is to reduce herpes infections but topical cidofovir has been shown to reduce some HPV‐induced warts
