What are the steps in a Gram stain preparation?

A
  1. Mount the specimen on the slide
  2. Stain with crystal violet
  3. Use iodine as a mordant so the color isn’t washed out
  4. EtOH/Acetone wash (Gram + will stay violet)
  5. Counterstain with safari (Gram - will stain pink)
