Ovarian Cortex
After puberty - oocyte surrounded by single layer of squamous cells (granulosa cells) embedded in ovarian stroma

– Large antrum filled with fluid (liquor folliculi) – Ready to release oocyte in response to LH surge – Granulosa cells directly around the oocyte = corona radiata
