Q

What does the Flywheel do on the RCP?

A
  • Helps remove decay heat immediately after trip
  • Sustains RCS flow following loss of power by increasing pump inertia which causes a longer coast down time to help prevent DNB

6
Q

What is the seal injection flowpath of the RCPs?

A
  1. Seal water enters below Radial Bearing and #1 Seal (Normally 8 gpm per RCP)
  2. 5 gpm flows down RCP shaft into the RCS
  3. 3 gpm flows up thru #1 seal
  4. 3 gph flow up thru #2 seal
  5. 100 cc/hr flows up thru #3 seal

7
Q

What is the seal return flow path?

A
  • # 1 Seal - Seal Water hx to CCP suction (or VCT)
  • # 2 Seal - RCP Standpipe and to the RCDT
  • # 3 Seal - Outlet of RCDT

Q

What is the purpose of the Anti-Rotation device (Ratchet Plate)?

A
  • Minimize reverse flow through an idle pump
  • Lowers starting current when starting RCP with one RCPs already running

12
Q

What has to be done if you lost CCW to the RCPs or if the plant has had a Phase B actuation?

A

Trip RCPs within 3 min and 14 secs to prevent damaging bearings

14
Q

What happens if QCM-350 isolates with regard to seal return?

A

1 Seal return is isolated and SV-50 will open at 150# and relieves to PRT which keeps seal leakoff available

15
Q

If there is a loss of CCW to the thermal barrier, does the RCP need to be tripped?

A

No, as long as there is still seal flow and all parameters stay within spec

16
Q

If there is a loss of CHW to the RCP motor air coolers, does it affect the operation of the RCPs?

A

It does not affect RCP operation.

It has a large impact on containment temperature and pressure.

17
Q

If you have a rupture of the thermal barrier, where will it most likely indicate first if its a small leak?

A

CCW Surge Tank Lvl

18
Q

If rupture disc blows on PRT, what is your indication?

A

PORV outlet temp decreases

19
Q

The purpose of QRV-150, RCP #1 Seal Bypass Valve, is to provide:

A

adequate lower radial bearing cooling flow at low RCS pressures.

20
Q

How much is the seal leak off for the # 1 Seal?

A

3 gpm

21
Q

How much is the seal leak off for the # 2 Seal?

A

3 gph to standpipe to RCDT

22
Q

How much is the seal leak off for the # 3 Seal?

A

100 cc/hr

23
Q

Is the RCP Bearing Lift pump required to be started on a RCP Shutdown?

A

NO

24
Q

How many CCW lines into and out of containment for RCP Cooling? Why?

A

1 line in, 2 lines out

So a thermal barrier leak can be isolated.

25
Q

What is the primary function of the RCPs?

A

Circulates reactor coolant thru the core and SGs. (Transfers heat generated in the core to the SGs).

26
Q

What is different about TS 3.4.7 RCS Loops MODE 5, Loops Filled in comparison to if Loops were NOT filled?

A

Credit can be taken for Natural Circulation

27
Q

What is the bases behind TS 3.5.5 (Seal Injection Flow)?

A

If the resistance is too small, ECCS injection flow may be less than required for core cooling during a small break LOCA.

28
Q

What is needed to start a RCP?

A
  • # 1 Seal ΔP > 215 psi
  • Interlock met
  • VCT > 15 psig
  • Cooling aligned
