Q1: what is regarded as a never event?

Q2: which colour note would indicate the tooth that is required to be extracted and what must it match?
Pink note indicates which tooth needs to be extracted. The pink note also must match the patient record notes.
Q3 wrong site surgery preventions protocol requires you to ask your patient a few questions before presenting them to you clinician, what are the questions?
- Confirm – I see you are in for an extraction today, is that correct?
- Can you tell me which tooth it is.
- Can you point to the tooth please.
- Check accuracy with clinical records.
Q4: on the pink notes what does the triage section indicate?
P1 triage indicates the level of pain the patient feeling. Red indicates that they would like tooth extracted, other colours could indicate mild pain.
Q5: the dental surgical safety checklist is to be completed to prevent wrong site surgery, when should the checklist NOT be completed?
Checklist should not be completed before the patient sits on a chair.
Q6: what notation system is used to identify teeth in oral surgery?

Last standing molar.
Q8: when you are looking at the patients past medical history what are you wanting to achieve?
You are wanting to see if their medical history will influence their treatment.
Q9: what type of medications do you need to be aware of before doing an extraction?
Bisphosphonates, warfarin and NOAC’s
Q10: why is it important to know whether the patient smokes or drinks alcohol before an extraction?
Alcohol and smoking will affect the patient ability to form a blood clot after the extraction and could lead to the development of a dry socket.
Q11: what are the purpose of elevators?
To expand socket and loosen tooth
Q12: what 9 post op instruction would you give to a patient after an extraction?
- Avoid rinsing mouth for 24 hours.
- Avoid alcohol today.
- Avoid smoking.
- Bite on clean cotton for 15 minutes if bleeds.
- How to contact you for advice if problems.
- Explain use of HSMW (hot salty mouth wash).
- Do not bite lip.
- Give analgesic advice (no NSAID’s for asthmatics).
- Avoid strenuous exercise.
Q13: what are the 5 stages for staff to check:
- Before giving LA, present patient to staff.
- Get staff to watch LA given.
- Observe during extraction.
- After notes written and haemostasis achieved.
- Patient must not leave before notes signed by staff.
