Blood 13 Flashcards
What makes somebody Rhesus positive?
Having the D gene and producing the D antigen D+
What are the antigens of the Rhesus system made out of?
Proteins and they are an integral part of the RBC membrane
What genotype will give you A antigens on your RBCs?
AA or AO
What genotype will give you B antigens on your RBCs?
BB or BO
What genotype will give you B and A antigens on your RBCs?
AB
What genotype will give you O antigens on your RBCs?
OO
What antibodies are found in the plasma of people with blood type A?
Anti-B antibodies
What antibodies are found in the plasma of people with blood type B?
Anti-A antibodies
What antibodies are found in the plasma of people with blood type AB?
No antibodies
What antibodies are found in the plasma of people with blood type O?
Anti-A and Anti-B antibodies
Where are antibodies present?
In the Plasma
What antibodies will be produced if the body is exposed to a foreign substance?
Anti-foreign substance antibodies
What are antibodies made of?
Protein
What group do Antibodies belong to?
Immunoglobulins
How many subtypes of Immunoglobulins are there?
Five
Which class of immunoglobulins do antibodies of the ABO system belong to and why?
The family of IGN, because they are naturally occuring
Why do individuals who have never been exposed to another blood type have different blood antigens?
Because individuals see antigens in their environment that are similar to the opposing gene that they have on their RBCs
What genotype causes a person to Rhesus positive?
DD or Dd
What genotype causes a person to be Rhesus negative?
dd
What class are the antibodies of the Rhesus system?
IGG
What antibodies are found in the genes of people that are positive or negative rhesus?
Both do not contain any anti-D antigens
When can somebody express the Anti-D antibody?
When the are exposed to the D antigen while they are rhesus negative
