ANS Lecture 2 Flashcards
Where are the cell bodies of the Preganglionic fibres found?
In the CNS
Where are Ganglia found?
Outside the CNS
What are the targets of Postganglionic fibres?
Smooth muscles, Cardiac muscle and various glands
Where is the location of the cell bodies of preganglionic fibres in the Parasympathetic ANS?
In the Cranial Region and In the Sacral Region
Where is the location of the cell bodies of preganglionic fibres in the Sympathetic ANS?
The Thoracic and Lumbar Region
What types of matter is in the center of the Center of the Spinal cord?
Grey Matter
What is the meaning of Dorsal?
The back
What is the meaning of Ventral?
The front
Where are the cell bodies of Somatic Nerves found?
In the ventral horn in the gray matter of the spinal cord
Where do the Nerves of the Somatic system go from the Ventral horn?
They go from the ventral horn to the ventral root and join the spinal nerves and through the various branches that the somatic nerves goes to a muscle
Where do cell bodies of Preganglionic Parasympathetic cells lie in the cranial and sacral region?
In the Lateral Horn of the Grey matter of the spinal cord
Where does the Preganglionic fibre from the Parasympathetic division go from the Lateral Horn?
They go from the lateral horn to the ventral root and join the spinal nerve all the way to the ganglion and communicates with the ganglion
What is the length of the Preganglionic fibre versus the Postganglionic fibre in the Parasympathetic nervous system?
The preganglionic fibre is a lot longer than the postganglionic fibre
What do Postganglionic Muscle fibres target?
Smooth muscle, cardiac muscle or glandular tissue
What does the term Divergence refer to?
When one preganglionic fiber branches with multiple postganglionic fibers
