ANS Lecture 8 Flashcards
What is the equation for blood pressure?
Cardiac Output multiplied by Total Peripheral Resistance
What is the formula for Cardiac Output?
Heart rate multiplied by Stroke volume
What is Stroke Volume?
How much blood comes out of the heart with each beat
What factors determine blood pressure?
- Heart Rate
- Force of Contraction
- Resistance of arterials
What do Baroreceptors sense?
When blood pressure goes up or down
How do the Parasympathetic and Sympathetic nervous systems function in response to increased blood pressure?
The Parasympathetic nervous system decreases heart rate and the force of contraction. Decreases sympathetic nervous system does this as well
Decreased sympathetic causes blood vessels to dilate
Which part of the Nervous System controls temperature regulation?
The sympathetic nervous system
How does the Sympathetic nervous system increase body temperature?
The sympathetic nervous system increases activity to skin causing piloerection, cutaneous blood vessels causing vasoconstriction, and various tissues increasing metabolism
It also decreases activity to sweat glands
