Adrenal glands Flashcards
The sympathetic supply for the adrenal medulla reaches the gland mainly via the greater splanchnic nerves.
Where do these nerves originate from?
Are the nerves pre- or post-ganglionic fibres?

lumbar
Are the nerves pre- or post-ganglionic fibres?
Post ganglionic
What is the main hormone produced by the adrenal medulla?
Adrenaline
What are the three groups of hormones produced by the adrenal cortex?
Zona glomerularis (outer)= produce Mineralocorticoids. (Na/K balance)
Zona fasciculata (middle)= Produce Glucocorticoids.
Zona reticularis (inner)= Produce Oestrogen, Testosterone, (some progesterone).
Where are the adrenal glands usually located?
Often on medial side of cranial pole! NOT on the top! Normally embedded in a little bit of fat, larger than you would expect.
Location: Medial to cranial pole of kidney. Some species variations.
Which landmarks differentiate a gross section of an adrenal gland from a lymph node?
Cortex and medulla
