Mustafa Kemal
The leader of the Turkish National Movement who fought for Turkey’s independence from British forces and won. He rued as a dictator, but also westernized Turkey and abolished many faulty practices
Ataturk
Surname given to Kemal after he established Turkey as independent, it means “father of the Turks”
Porfirio Diaz
The dictator of Mexico who allowed for some stability and economic progress, but the country’s economics were mostly in the hands of the obscenely rich or US powers
Francisco Madero
The Mexican presidential candidate that dictator Porfirio Diaz imprisoned, sparking the Mexican Revolution. He escaped and led the revolution.
Mexican Revolution
The overthrowing of Porfirio Diaz. It led to a period of instability and death in Mexico until the mid-1900s.
Francisco “Pancho” Villa
Military leader of the Mexican Revolution

Mexican Revolution leader who distributed Mexican land to peasants after winning the revolution

A Mexican group that was criticized as corrupt and dominated Mexican politics as all Mexican presidents were members from the mid-1900s to 2000.
