Ana Nzinga
African ruler of the Ndongo. Struck a deal with the Portuguese to gain protection from slave raiders by becoming Christian. When the alliance broke down, she fled with her people to Matamba where she and her people took over and became prosperous.

Ana Nzinga ruled this people group. They were allied with Portugal for a time until the alliance broke down, and then they took over and lived in Matamba.

State Ana Nzinga and the Ndongo people took over. Became strong after she did.

Yemelyan Pugachev
Cossak that led the Pugachev Rebellion against Catherine the Great by pretending to be her dead husband and uniting a ton of people, including peasants and other Cossaks. His rebellion was eventually crushed.
Pugachev Rebellion
Rebellion led by Yemelyan Pugachev and comprised of Cosaks, serfs, and peasants against Catherine the Great and her oppression of the serfs. t was crushed and Catherine increased serf repression in return for the support of nobles as a result.
Maratha Empire
Group of Hindu warriors in the Mughal Empire called the Marathas led a rebellion and regained control from the Mughal Empire over India, beginning the Maratha Empire
Pueblo Revolt
The indigenous Pueblo and Apache people fought Spanish colonizers attempting to force religious conversions and regained control of their land until they were later reconquered.
Maroon Wars
After the English gained control of Jamaica, the escaped former slaves there known as the maroons fought for their freedom. They had developed independent settlements. Queen Nanny united them in this fight.

Gloucester County Rebellion
First slave revolt in the US. Slaves and indentured white servants conspired together to revolt, were arrested.
Metacom’s War
Also known as King Philip’s War, it was the final effort of the natives to drive the British out of New England. Some natives fought for the British. It failed and the Wampanoag people were subjugated.

James II
Last Catholic king of England. Many people did not like his anti-protestant way of ruling. Overthrown by his nephew and son-in-law William of Orange.
William of Orange
Overthrew Catholic king James II and ruled England with his wife Mary II as protestants. Led the Glorious Revolution.
Mary II
Protestant wife of William of Orange, helped lead the Glorious Revolution.
Glorious Revolution
Also called the Bloodless Revolution, this was when William of Orange and Mary II became the protestant rulers of England and thus removed the final Catholic king of England, James II. They strengthened Parliament, which passed a law forbidding Catholics from ruling. The religious revolution spread across the country.
Fronde
French Civil War. King Louis XIV was too young to be crowned, so chief minister Cardinal Jules Mazarin ruled in his place. He placed high taxes on the bourgeoisie, which started a revolution. The first act of the revolution was the destruction of government officials’ property using children’s slings called frondes. The war ended when Louis XIV took the throne.
