What is aging population?
A population in which the proportion of elderly people is increasing
-Higher life expectancies
-Lower crude birth rates
What are political consequences of an aging population?
Political power in that population can switch: Most voters in America are elderly people
Governments must create policies to care for those older folks
What are social consequences of an aging population?
Child care benefits increase
The more a country industrializes, the most likely society is denied by the nuclear family instead of multigenerational households
Housing and retirement homes increase
Family structures/social stratification can change

Pressure put on social security: A policy passed by the federal government in 1935 as a financial safety net for retired people.
