What is population composition?
Describes the demographic makeup of various populations.
What is age structure?
Refers to a population’s organization based on age groups (cohorts)
What is the dependency ratio?
The number of people in the dependent age groups divided by the number of people in the working age group, multiplied by 100.
What is the sex ratio?
Represents the comparisons of males to females in a population.
What is child dependency?
The number of infants divided by the number of people in the working age group, multiplied by 100.
What is demographics?
Refers to distinct and individual traits among people. (Ethnicity, Income, Education, etc.)
What shape shows rapid growth on population pyramids?
Always will be seen as wide at the bottom to very narrow at the top. Shows a high birth rate and a shorter lifespan. This is usually seen in developing nations.
What shape shows slow growth on population pyramids?
The birth rate is still slightly higher than the death rate. It shows that the country is still growing, just not at a rapid rate.
What shape shows stable growth on population pyramids?
The birth and death rates are similar. It can be seen as a straight line. The growth rate is close to zero.
What shape shows a declining growth on population pyramids?
The base is narrower than the top. The birth rate is declining while the average lifespan is increasing in a country.
