What are types of human-environmental interaction?
sustainability, land use, use of natural resources
What is sustainability?
Using nonrenewable resources so they will continue to be available in the future
What is land use?
How humans beings use and modify the land on which they live
What is the use of natural resources?
Materials found in the earth that humans use for economic gain
What are renewable and non-renewable resources?
-Can be used in unlimited measure
-Can be only used in limited measure
What is an epoch?
Geological time scales that rely on many elements. Each epoch will contain flora/fauna.
What is flora and fauna?
Flora: Describes the plants in an area Fauna: Describes the animals in an area
What are some human-environmental theories?
environmental determinism/possibilism, truism
What is environmental determinism and its criticisms?
The environment determines the culture of an area
-Criticism: Favors accomplishments of certain societies over others.
-Criticism: Doesn’t talk about how countries go through advancements AND difficulties
What is environmental possibilism?
The natural environmental places constraints on humans; but, humans can adapt somewhat
What is truism?
Regardless of where people live, they depend upon, adapt to, and modify the environment
