What is the carrying capacity?
The maximum population an environment can support.
The number of people, or other living organisms, or crops that a region can support without environmental degradation.
What is overpopulation?
When a species’s population becomes so large that it is deemed exceeding the carrying capacity and must be actively controlled
What is politics affected by population?
Representation: Influence on the number of representatives an area receives
Resource allocation: Fundings for infrastructure and public services fluctuates
Political identity: Conflicts regarding representation in government
How does economics get affected by population?
Employment: Number of jobs available; Different jobs available
Economic Development: Attracting more businesses and investment
Infrastructure: More development and maintenance
How are social factors affected by population?
Community Development: Diverse communities and a stronger sense of community
Culture/Diversity: Some areas may become more diverse
Quality of Life: More amenities and opportunities are available; overcrowding can harm people
Social Mobility: The ability to move up or down the social ladder is affected
How is the environment affected by population?
Pollution: Higher levels of air/water pollution can happen
Habitat Destruction: Deforestation; more development and land use
Biodiversity: Areas with a higher population may have fewer natural habitats/less biodiversity
Climate Change: Contribution to greenhouse gas emissions increase
