P: a strength of slt is that it can explain differences in behaviour across cultures, whereby if someone is not exposed to a behaviour it cannot be imitated.
E: principles in slt such as modelling, imitation and reinforcement can account for how children learn from the world around them, explaining how cultural norms can be transmitted through particular societies.
E; for example in eastern cultures it’s the norm to take shoes off before entering a home. However in western cultures this is not a norm or common behaviour. Slt provides an explanation for this as if the behaviour has not been seen meditational processes cannot occur, behaviour cannot be learnt and therefore cannot be imitated in western cultures. In eastern cultures this behaviour would have been reinforced so vicarious reinforcement can occur. This explains why taking off shoes before entering homes is a common practice in eastern cultures but not western cultures.
