Q

Explain why obedience rates dropped from 65% to 47.5% in location variation

A

A prestigious university gives the study legitimacy and authority in eyes of pots
The expirmeneter then share this legitimacy. A run down office block doesn’t
However since obedience rates were still relatively high it could be argued ppts were aware of scientific nature of procedure along with the researcher as an authority figure being present.

Q

Explain the change in obedience rates in all 3 proximity variations

A

Decreased proximity allows people to psychologically distance themselves from the consequences of their actions

Eg: in proximity variation they were in diff rooms teacher was less aware of the harm they were causing snd was more obedient
In remote instruction variation authority of expirimenter becomes less apparent because he’s further away

Q

Explain why changes in obedience rates in uniform variation

A

Uniform encourages obedience bc they are widely recognised symbols of authority whereby their authority is legitimate
Ppl without uniform have less right to expect our obedience
