Psychological Explantions: Eysencks Theory Ao1 Flashcards
Eysenck proposed that behaviour could be represented along 2 dimensions
(And then he added 2 later dimensions)
Introversion
Extroversion
Neuroticism
stability
He then later added
Psychoticism
Extra version refers to
People who are outgoing, enjoy social interaction
Prefer company of others
Seek excitement and stimulation
Introversion refers to
People who are more reserved and
Thoughtful
Prefer social activities or smaller social
gatherings
According to esyeneck extraversikn and introversion are effected by
Level of cortical Arousal
What does RAS stand for and what’s it’s function
Reticular activating system
Acts as a filter that controls how much stimulation the brain receives
RAS of intoversion…
There RAS doesn’t filter as much - let’s more info through
So their normal state is more stimulated so have a higher level of cortical arousal
So more sensitive to extra stim and become overstim
Preferring queiter environments bc NS less likely to be overstim
RAS of extrovert
Filters more info than normal so are less stim - lower cortical arousal
Typical activities don’t provide enough stim so thus drawn to criminal acts that give adrenaline rush or sense of danger
Attempting to compensate for lower cortical levels and seeking stim
Social conditioning
How we learn what’s good and bad behaviour
We should associate
Socially acceptable beh with rewards and criminal beh w punishments
