localisation of function ao1 Flashcards
Define localisation
In terms of the brain this means the part of the brain in which a function is carried out
Define hemispheric lateralisation
When One hemisphere carries out particular functions
Define contralateral
When the right hemisphere deals with the left side of the body and vice versa
Frontal lobe
Located at front of brain
Split into left and right hemisphere
Prefrontal cortex at the front - executive functions
Brocas area - speech and writing
Primary motor coretxt back of frontal lobe controls skeletal muscles for movement
Occipital lobe
Back of cerebral cortex
Primary visual cortex
Parietal lobe
Behind frontal lobe
Somatosensory cortex
Receiving and processing senses apart from hearing snd visual
Temporal lobe
Side of the brain
Hearing language and emotion
Primary audiotur cortex - hearing
Wernikes area - understanding speech and language
Amyglada - processing and expressing emotions eg anger anxiety
