SCHIZO BIO EVAL - neural Flashcards
DOPMAINE HYPOTHESIS LIMITATION - Explanation/Evidence
LIMITATION of the dopmaine hypothesis is x for teh x x of x
x x and x x x consitlently found raised level of x glutamate in x x regions of people with x
in addtiiton several x x for schizo are believed to be involved in glutamate x or x
this means that an x strong case can be made for the x of other xx
LIMITATION of the dopmaine hypothesis is evidence for teh central role of glutamte
post mortem and live scannigns tudies consitlently found raised level so fneurtotransmitter glutamate in several brain regions of people with schizophrenia
in addtiiton several candidate genes for schizo are believed to be involved in glutamate production or processing
this means that an equally strong case can be made for the role of other NT
strength - dopmaine hypothesis - evidence from drug studies
there is support from a number of x for x dopamine funcitonng in schizophrenia
dopmaine x like x that x teh levels of x makes schizophrenia x and can produce schizophrenia like symptoms in x x
x drugs on the other hand work by x dopamine activity and are used x with many x patients
furthermore research has suggested a x of candidate genes x in schizophrenia act on the x of x OR ON x x
All of this x suggests that x is involved in the x of schizophrenia
there is support from a number of sources for abnormal dopamine funcitonng in schizophrenia
dopmaine anotginiss like amphetamines that increase teh levels of dopmaine makes schizophrenia worse and can produce schizophrenia like symptoms in non sufferers
antipsychotic drigs on the other hand work by reducing dopamine activity and are used effectivley with many schizophrenic patients
furthermore reserch has suggested a number of candidate genes implicated in schizophrenia act on the produciton of DOPMAINE OR ON DOPAMINE RECEPTORS
All of this strngly suggests that dopamine is involved in the symptoms of schizophrenia
bio determinism point
clear evidence to show that x factors also increase x of developing schizo
these enviro factors also icnlude x and x influences
biological risk fctors include x x (MORGAN ET AL ) and smoking xxx x x in x years
psycho risk factors include x which leaves people more x to adult mental health problems in general but now evidence for x link with schizo
study by x et al found x% people with schizo and related psychotic conditions reported at least x childhood trauma as opposed to x% of x group with non x mental health problems
this means x factors alone cannot provide a complete explanatino for schizophrenia
clear evidence to show that enviro factors also increase risk of developing schizo
these enviro factors also icnlude bio and psyc influences
biological risk fctors include birth compications (MORGAN ET AL ) and smoking THC rich cannabis in teen years
psycho risk factors include childhood trauma which leaves people more vulnerable to adult mental health problems in general but now evidence for ptclr link with schizo
study by Mokved et al found 67% people with schizo and related psychotic conditions reported at least one childhood trauma as opposed to 38% of match group with non psychotic mental health problems
this means neural factors alone cannot provide a complete explanatino for schizophrenia
