SBL Week 3 - Learning Issues Flashcards
What are the different grades of hypertension? What are the ranges?
There are three grades of hypertension. The higher the grade, the worse the hypertension. The grades are as follows:
Grade 1: 140-159/90-99
Grade 2: 160-179/100-109
Grade 3: 180+/110+
How do you diagnose high blood pressure (how many readings)?
Two or more readings.
What are the factors that contribute to blood pressure?
Resistance and flow (think: Ohms law)
What is the normal range of MAP?
70-100mmHg
How do you measure stroke volume?
Using ECG ventricle measurements, subtract the volume of the ventricle at the end of the beat from the volume at the start.
What is the role of endothelial cells in blood vessels (including secretory function)?
Endothelial cells regulate communication between the bloodstream and the surrounding tissue.
They also secrete:
- Vasoconstriction/vasodilation factors
- Enzymes that regulate anticoagulant (prevent fibrin format) and anti-platelet (prevents aggregation)
Blood supply for vessels themselves – vasa vasorum?
In larger vessels, the vasa vasorum penetrates the tunica adventitia and tunica media.
In smaller vessels, it penetrates only the tunica adventitia.
