Features of an Ergonomic Office Flashcards
Minimal Clutter
Sufficient storage should be provided to ensure files and resources are not lying around the office. Clutter restricts ability to focus and ability to process information which can lead to stress and low morale.
Noise
Consideration should be given to have double glazing, appropriate floor coverings, placing noisy equipment in a separate room and providing additional quiet spaces for employees to work in.
Position of Desk Items
Keyboards, mouse, phone, in and out trays, stationery etc. should be placed at optimal positions to minimise unnecessary/uncomfortable movements or stretching. Any items needed should be within reach without stretching.
Wall Colours
Colours should be used which are relaxing and calming and will minimise glare. Strong or over-powering colours can result in eye strain, headaches, frustration and even contribute to sick building syndrome.
Equipment/Furniture
Provide desks, chairs and computer screens that adjust to suit individual requirements. This can ensure that the monitor is correctly positioned to reduce eye strain and neck/shoulder pain.
Ventilation
There should be a flow of fresh, clean air to prevent the workplace feeling stuffy/muggy.
