the surplus cytoplasm is stripped away forming the mature sperm

head

What is the head of the sperm?
almost entirely a nucleus with a crown known as the acrosome
What does the acrosome contain?
enzymes that break down the membrane of the egg to allow the sperm to penetrate
What does the midpiece of the sperm contain?
mitochondria which generates the locomotive energy
What is the tail of the sperm?
flagellum that helps propel the sperm
When does testosterone production occur?
during puberty
What is the function of testosterone?
stimulates growth in males
stimulates the secondary male sex characteristics
What causes testosterone to be made?
LH and FSH from the anterior pituitary
