2.4 Spinal Nerve (II) Flashcards
Where do the nerves for the upper extremities branch off from?
brachial plexus
What vertebra do the spinal nerves that make up the brachial plexus come from?
C5-T1
What combines to form the roots of the brachial plexus?
ventral Rami from C5-T1
What are the three trunks of the brachial plexus?
superior
middle
inferior
What do the trunks of the brachial plexus form?
anterior and posterior divisions
What do the anterior and posterior divisions of the brachial plexus form?
branch into three cords: lateral, posterior, and middle
What do the cords of the brachial plexus terminate in?
five major branches:
musculocutaneous nerve, axillary nerve, median nerve, radial nerve, ulnar nerve
What are the “extra” nerves that come off the brachial plexus and supply sensory and motor information?
long thoracic nerve
suprascapular nerve
pectoral nerve
thoracodorsal nerve
What muscles does the axillary nerve supply?
deltoid
teres minor
long head of the triceps brachii
What information does the axillary nerve carry from the shoulder joint?
sensory
What muscles does the radial nerve supply?
triceps brachii
twelve muscles in the forearm that control wrist and finger extension
Where does the radial nerve carry sensory information from?
associated joints in the arm and the overlying skin of the forearm
What track does the radial nerve follow?
posterior surface of the humerus and wraps around the anterior surface close to the elbow joint
What does the median nerve supply?
flexor muscles of the forearm and skin of the first three and a half fingers
Where does the median nerve travel?
medially on the anterior surface of the elbow
