What are hives?
raised red bumps
What is anaphylactic shock?
when a persons capillaries become so dilated it causes a drop in blood pressure leading to collapse
What is a consequence of anaphylactic shock?
death because a persons heart can stop beating or airways become completely closed
What is an EPI pen?
epinephrine auto injector
How do you use an EPI pen?
injected into the thigh releasing epinephrine into the bloodstream
How does epinephrine help in an allergic reaction?
constricts blood vessels and raises blood pressure
What is edema?
accumulation of too much fluid in tissues causing swelling
What is lymphedema?
lymphatic system is not functioning properly to return fluid back to circulation
Why can lymphedema become a serious issue?
increases the risk of infection in the arms or legs
What happens if lymphedema is left untreated?
connective tissues and vessels become permanently stretched and distended
What is tonsilitis?
inflammation of the tonsils caused by a bacterial or viral infection
