2.1 The Brain Part 4 Flashcards
What is the function of the medulla?
regulates heartbeat, breathing, and vasoconstriction
What is vasoconstriction?
constriction of blood vessels involved in the regulation of blood pressure
What portion of the brain contains the reflex centers for vomitting, couching, sneezing, and swallowing?
medulla
What does the pons contain?
bundles of axons that travel between the cerebellum and the rest of the CNS
What is the function of the pons?
to work with the medulla to regulate breathing
has reflex centers that are concerned with movements in response to visual and auditory stimuli
What are the functions of the midbrain?
relay station for tracts passing between the cerebrum and the spinal cord/cerebellum
reflex centers for higher level reflexes involving visual, auditory, and tactile responses
Where are the superior and inferior colliculi located?
posterior portion of the midbrain
