What is the purpose of the skull?
to protect the brain
What is the purpose of the vertebrae?
protect the spinal cord
What is the CNS able to do?
send and receive signals or impulses to the peripheral nervous sytem
What are nuclei in regards to the CNS?
collections of cell bodies inside of the CNA
What are tracts in regards to the CNS?
collection of nerve axons in the CNS
What encompasses the peripheral nervous system?
all nerves not in the brain or spinal cord
What are the two subset of nerves that are in the PNS?
cranial and spinal nerves
What makes up the brain stem?
midbrain
pons
medulla
Where do cranial nerves project from?
brainstem
Where do spinal nerves project from?
either side of the spinal cord
What do cranial nerves generally innervate?
face
head
neck
What do the spinal nerves generally innervate?
trunk and extremities
What are ganglia in regards to the PNS?
collections of cell bodies inside the PNS
