1) state, alternative hypothesis, one or two tailed
2) place, raw data in table pairs of data
3) find difference and rank, if zero omit this, ignore signs
4) calculate observed value of T, add up ranks, positive values then for negative values, T is figure thats smallest ignore signs
5) is result in right direction if not, then accept null hypothesis
6) find critical value of T
