Pre- Procedure

A
  1. Explain that the patient will need to drink a contrast medium, once that is complete the patient will need to assume different positions on the x-ray table
  2. Patient will be NPO 8-12 hours
  3. Avoid smoking after midnight prior to exam
  4. Do not chew gum while NPO

A
  1. Take measures to prevent contrast medium impaction
  2. Teaching client that stool may be white for up to 72 hours post test
