- Stimulates motility of the upper GI tract and accelerates gastric emptying
- Blocks dopamine receptors in chemoreceptor trigger zone of the CNS

A
Sedation, fatigue, headache, sleeplessness, extrapyramidal reactions

Nursing Implications
A
- Teach patient to avoid concurrent use of alcohol and other CNS depressants
- Assess patient for nausea, vomiting, and bowel sounds prior to and following administration
- Advise patient to notify MD immediately if involuntary movement of eyes, face or limbs occur
- PO dose is administered 1/2 - 1 hour before meals and at bedtime
