Herbal Therapy

Echinacea
Stimulates the immune system. upper respiratory infections. autoimmune disorders should not take this herb. short term therapy. liver inflammation may occur
Saw palmetto
benign prostatic hyperplasia. may increase risk of bleeding
Aloe
used for constipation. may cause electrolyte imbalances. may lower blood glucose levels
Melatonin
Regulates sleep. used for insomnia or jet lag.
Ginko biloba
used for intermittent claudication (pain with walking due to peripheral arterial disease). may increase risk of bleeding.
St. John’s Wart
used for mild to moderate depression. advise parent to consult health care provider before use. interacts with many herbs, supplements and medications
Glucosamine
Has a role in synthesis of cartilage and is frequently used for clients with arthritis. should be used cautiously in individuals allergic to shellfish
Garlic
used to lower cholesterol levels. may increase risk of bleeding. may lower blood glucose levels
