Pre-Procedure

A
  1. NPO 8 hours
  2. Signed consent
  3. Explain that a local anesthetic may be sprayed on the throat prior to start
  4. Explain that the client will be sedated during the producedure

Post-Procedure

A
  1. Keep client NPO until gag reflex returns (tickle back of throat to test)
  2. Use warm saline gargle for relief of sore throat
  3. Monitor temperature every 15-30 minutes for 1-2 hours (spike in temp indicates perforation)
