What happens during ERCP?
A
Fiberoptic endoscope is inserted through the oral cavity into the descending duodenum then to the bile duct and finally the pancreatic ducts are cannulated

What is the purpose of ERCP?
A
Diagnostic, pre- or post- cholecytectomy, stent placement, stone manipulation/removal

Pre-Procedure
A
- NPO 8 hours
- Ensure consent is signed
- Conscious sedation or anesthesia
- Anesthesia administered immediately prior to and during procedure

Post Procedure
A
- Monitor VS
- Monitor for signs of perforation or infection
- Monitor for signs of pancreatitis
- Monitor gag reflex

What conditions might a person undergoing ERCP be diagnosed with?
A
- Gallbladder disease
- Pancreatitis
