1. Explain that the pt. will need to drink a contrast medium; once that is complete the patient will need to assume different positions on x-ray table
2. NPO 8-12 hours
3. Avoid smoking after midnight prior to exam
4. Do not chew gum while NPO

Post Procedure

1. Take measures to prevent contrast medium impaction
2. Teach client that stool may be white for up to 72 hours post test
