Actinic Keratosis
- Premalignant macule due to chronic sun exposure
- Form of squamous cell carcinoma
- 1% progress to malignant lesion
- Erythematous, rough, shiny malcules - single or in groups
- Common on face, ears, scalp, lips, neck, hands
Curettage
Removal of tissue using an instrument with a circular cutting edge; tissue is scooped away
Basal cell carcinoma
locally invasive malignancy arising from epidermal basal cells
Cryosurgery
Application of liquid nitrogen to freeze abnormal cells
Dysplastic nevi
Moles larger than 5mm across with irregular borders and various shades of color
Malignant melanoma
Neoplastic growth of melanocytes anywhere on skin
Mohs micrographic surgery
Area of tumor is shaved off one thin layer at a time until tumor is removed
Squamous cell carcinoma
malignant neoplasm of squamous cell of epidermis
Total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH)
- Removal of uterus and cervix through abdominal incision
- Hospital 2 days
- Care as any patient after abdominal surgery
Total Vaginal Hysterectomy (TVH)
- Removal of uterus and cervix through vagina
- Packing placed in vaginal cavity for 24 hours
- Hospitalized for 2 days
- Care as any patient after abd. surgery
Laparoscopic Abdominal Vaginal Hysterectomy (LAVH)
- Laparoscopic assisted removal of uterus and cervix.
- Hospitalized 1-2 days
- Care similar to other laparoscopic abdominal surgeries
- Robotic device may be utlizied in laparoscopic procedure
Bilateral Salpingoopherectomy (BSO)
- Removal of both ovaries and both fallopian tubes
- Results in surgical menopause
Right or Left Salpingoopherectomy
Removal of right or left ovary and fallopian tube
Total Abdominal Hysterectomy with Bilateral Salpingoopherectomy
- Removal of uterus and cervix through abdominal incision as well as removal of right and left ovary and fallopian tube
