Thoracolumbar Fascia Flashcards
1
Q
Thoracolumbar fascia
A
- Extends high up to neck back and below sacrum binding back muscles to vertebral column sides
- In lumbar region, it is well formed, thickened (sometimes called lumbar fascia)
- Composed of 3 layers: anterior, middle, and posterior
2
Q
Anterior layer
A
- Covers quadratus lumborum anterior surface
- Thickened above as lateral arcuate ligament
3
Q
Middle layer
A
- Covers quadratus lumborum posterior surface
- Fuses with anterior layer at muscle lateral margin
- Medial, it reaches back of lumbar vertebrae tranverse processes
- Separates quadratus lumborum from sacrospinalis
4
Q
Posterior layer
A
- Covers sacrospinalis back
- Medial, it gains attachment to vertebrae spines
- Lateral, it fuses with back of lumbar fascia middle layer
5
Q
Lumbar fascia lateral border
A
Gives origin to internal oblique and transverse abdominis
