Stomach: Ends And Borders Flashcards
Cardiac end site
Found at junction of stomach with esophagus
Cardiac end specific site
1 inch to left of median plane at left 7th costal cartilage (11th thoracic vertebra) level 10 cm from anterior abdominal wall and 40 cm from incisor teeth
Cardiac end is controlled by:
Physiological sphincter
1. Acute gastroesophageal angle valve-like action
2. Diaphragm right crus pinch-like action
3. Stomach upper end mucosal rosette forms plug to esophagus lower end
4. Esophagus abdominal part is subjected to high positive intrabdominal pressure
5. Stomach fundus circular muscle fibers encircle esophagus lower end. During gastric contraction, these fibers prevent gastroesophageal reflux
Pyloric end site
At junction of stomach with duodenum
Pyloric end specific site
1/2 inch to right of median plane at Transpyloric plane (L1 vertebra) level
Pyloric end controlled by
Anatomical pyloric sphincter formed by thickening of circular muscle fibers
Lesser curvature site
Stomach right border
Lesser curvature notch
Shows notch at its right 1/3 (incisura angularis or angular notch) which marks junction of stomach body with pyloric part
Lesser curvature attachment
Lesser omentum
Lesser curvature relations
Right and left gastric vessels run along it
Greater curvature site
Stomach left border 4-5 times longer than lesser curvature
Greater curvature notch
Shows notch with esophagus (incisura cardia or cardiac notch)
Greater curvature attachment
- Greater omentum
- Gastrophrenic
- Gastro-splenic
ligaments
Greater curvature relations
- Short gastric
- Left and right gastroepiploic vessels run along it
