Stomach: Parts And Surfaces Flashcards
Parts
- Fundus
- Body
- Pyloric part
Fundus
- Found above horizontal artificial line running to left from cardiac end to greater curvature
- Usually empty of food in erect position and contains gastric air
Body
Found above mentioned horizontal line and perpendicular line drawn from incisura angularis to greater curvature
Pyloric part
Found right of body and subdivided into 3 regions:
1. Pyloric antrum
2. Pyloric canal
3. Pyloric sphincter
Pyloric antrum
Dilatation just to right of body
Pyloric canal
Narrow part to right of antrum 2-3 cm long
Pyloric sphincter
Narrow thickened end right of pyloric canal
Pyloric sphincter can be identified during operation by:
- Thickening of its muscle wall
- Presence of prepyloric vein of mayo crossing over connecting right gastroepiploic vein on greater curvature to right gastric vein on lesser curvature
Surfaces (relations)
Anterior and posterior (stomach bed)
Anterior relations
- Liver inferior surface (left lobe and quadrants lobe): related to area adjoining lesser curvature
- Diaphragm:
Related to stomach upper left part - Anterior abdominal wall:
Related to stomach lower part
All above structures are separated from stomach by peritoneum greater sac
Posterior relations
4 organs and 4 related structures
1. Anterior surface of pancreas body and splenic artery above it
2. Left kidney anterior surface and left Suprarenal gland above it
3. Spleen visceral surface and diaphragm left crus above it
4. Transverse colon and tranverse mesocolon above it
All above mentioned structures are separated from stomach by peritoneum lesser sac except spleen which is separated by it by greater sac
