A
- Covered by peritoneum anterior and on sides
- 2 paracolic gutters (longitudinal grooves) are found along its lateral and medial sides

A
- Lateral to ascending colon
- Communicates with right anterior and posterior subphrenic spaces above and with pelvic cavity below
- Only gutter which is open above

A
- Medial to ascending colon
- Closed above and below
- Lies between mesentery root, ascending colon and transverse mesocolon

A
- Paracolic gutters may transmit pus between peritoneal cavity different parts in peritonitis
- Fluid collection in abdomen upper part can pass downwards along these gutters as in perforated peptic ulcer
