Portal Circulation Flashcards
Portal circulation
Circulations which begins and ends by capillaries (arterial blood which leaves heart has to pass through 2 capillary networks before returning to heart)
Networks
1st network and 2nd network
1st network
Lies in alimentary canal submucosa
2nd network
Forms sinusoidal capillary network between liver cells columns
It carries venous blood from four sites
- Digestive tract: (from esophagus lower end to anal canal upper 1/2)
- Spleen
- Pancreas
- Gall bladder
Venous blood course
- Blood passes through portal vein to liver where metabolism occurs
- Portal blood circulates in liver sinusoids
- Passes to central veins which are collected in hepatic veins terminating in IVC
Portal vein formation
Formed by portal vein and its tributaries
Systemic vein formation
Formed by IVC and SVC and their tributaries
