Human body systems Flashcards
1
Q
Tissue support
Extracellular matrix
A
- Material synthesised and secreted by cells of that tissue
- Has proteoglycans and insoluble protein fibres
- Lots in connective tissue also other functions (support)
2
Q
Tissue support
Cell junctions
A
- Held together by cell adhesion molecules
- Gap junctions between cells that allows to move freely
- Tight junction hold the cells together stop molecules passing
- Desmosome - strain on cell like cardiac
3
Q
Tissue support
Exchange
A
- Base thin layer of matrix
- Exchange simple flattened (squamous) has pores rapid exchange (more than one layer called stratified)
- Blood vessels called endothelium
4
Q
Tissue support
Transport and ciliated
A
- Active regulation as they are ciliated many folds higher surface area
- Sweep fluids across surface in reproductive tract
5
Q
Tissue support
Protective
A
- Epidermis has a stratified structure provides strength
- Prevents exchange occurring across structure
6
Q
Secreatory
A
- Loose connective tissue such as adipose tissue cartilage and fluid is blood
- Dense connective tissue such as tendon bones a ligiment and irregular form skin supported by bones and fluid is lyph
7
Q
Homeostasis
A
Regulating the condition within the normal range internally via physiological control mechanism
8
Q
Negative feedback loop
A
- Once corrective mechanism is inforced return stimulus to normal conditions
