EDG Aux Flashcards
What is the rating of the EDGs?
20 cylinder, 900 rpm, 2600kW
How long can an EDG be run unloaded before it will need to be run fully loaded? for how long? Why?
Can be run unlaoded 4.5 hr before needing >1hr fully loaded.
Fully loaded run needed to remove carbon buildup in exhaust line. Full load run produces exhaust gas hot enough to burn off the carbon deposits
What is the load carrying capacity of the EDG?
Each EDG capable of carrying ECCS power requirements for 2 hrs - 10% overload rating of EDG
Capable of carrying ALL SSD loads
What is the purpose of the EDG Air Start SYstem?
Provides all of the equipment necessary to compress, store, and deliver high pressure air sufficient to start the diesel engine without reliance on AC electrical power
On an EDG Start Signal, what does the Air Start System to?
Air Start Solenoid ENERGIZES - energized by 125vdc;
Air routed through air start solenoid to pinion of 1st motor, then to 2nd motor
Air operates a diaphragm against spring pressure to open Air Start Relay;
Relay routes air to Air Start Motors (BOTH MUST ENGAGE TO ROTATE ENGINE)
What is the air start requirement/pressure/sequence for starting the EDG?
If 70 psig air pressure not sensed at inlet to air start motor w/in 3 seconds of start signal, start solenoid is de-energized and 1 second later the start solenoid is re-energized to attempt another start (15 seconds total before lockout)
What RPM must the EDG be able to achieve from Air Start Motor in order to start?
75rpm
What is required from the Air Start System for EDG to be Operable?
Must be able to start the EDG in 10 seconds
1 bank of receivers is required to keep operable
1 bank at >220psig provides enough air and pressure for 3 starts
1 bank at >175 psige will only provide 1 start - 48 hr to restore
What is the purpose of the EDG Jacket Water Cooling System?
Closed loop water system, which removes heat of combustion during diesel engine operation.
During standby conditions, the system maintains engine in pre-warmed state using an IMMERSION HEATER
What is the design capacity of the Jacket Cooling Water System?
Sufficient heat removal to maintain engine coolant outlet temp below 190F using engine driven water pumps
How does the Jacket Cooling Water System Cool the Engine?
Water flows through the engine, lube oil cooler and DGCW Hx.
Uses a Hx to cool the water with Service water Via DGCWP as a heat sink
What is the purpose of the Jacket Water Cooling System Immersion Heater? Power Source? Temp Range?
Interlock?
Used to maintain water 125F to 155F to pre-warm engine when in standby
Powered by 28-3/38-3/29-4 (Only Opp Div ONLY component)
On Engine Start heaters inhibited when speed >200rpm
What is the Immersion Heater impact on EDG Operability?
INOP of oil temp <85F
What is the purpose/Flow Path of the Jacket Cooling Water System TCV?
It splits the flow between teh HX and the Bypass Line
What is the Purpose of the DG Cooling Water System?
Open Loop system providing a heat sink for the EDG Jacket Water System through Hx.
May also be used as alternate source of water for ECCS Room Coolers and CCSW Keep Fill
When does the DGCWP Start?
Immediately on EDG Start Signal - start of DGCWP will maintain CCSW System full and ready for system startup
What is the Cribhouse Intake Temperature Impact on the EDG?
If Intake >95F then DGCW and CCSW Systems INOP
How many EDG CWPs can take suction off the same CW bay?
NO MORE THAN 2 ARE ALLOWED TO TAKE SUCTION OFF THE SAME SOURCE
When the DGCWP is aligned to ECCS RM Cooler, what is the condition of the EDG?
INOP
How long can EDG Run w/out cooling?
Slow Idle (450rpm)- 42 Min Fast Idle (900rpm)- 10 Min Fully Loaded (900rpm)- 3 min
What limitations are there on CCSW with the 2/3 EDG in service? WHY?
With 2/3 EDG loaded:
If inlet (INTAKE) temp <82F No restrictions
>82F &<91F - no more than 3 U2 CCSW Pumps
>92F - no more than 2 U2 CCSW Pps
Where does EDG Cooling Water Discharge to?
Service Water 36” Discharge Header for U2 and U3
2/3 discharges to U2 CCSW Discharge Header - then 48” SW Header
What are teh power sources for the EDG CWPs?
U2: 29-2
U3: 39-2
2/3: 28-3/38-3
(They match their EDG Division)
