ARM Flashcards
What is the purpose of the ARMs?
Warn of abnormal radiation levels in areas where radioactive material may be present, stored, handled or inadvertently introduced and to provide information regarding radiation levels at selected locations within the plant that are normally frequented by plant personnel
What is the purpose of a radiation source or “bug”?
provides a small non-zero reading to allow differntiating between a low rad level and a failed detector
a downscale alarm with a bug source would indicate an instrument failure
Where are teh ARM indicators?
Located on the back panel in the control room and indicate the local radiation level
What alarms or indications of abnormal conditions are available in the MCR for ARMs?
902-3 Panel - Downscale or high trip - Common alarm
902-11 - AMBER Seal in light on trip unit
How are the 902-3 ARM alarms reset?
They can be reset by taking the normal/bypass switch on the 902-2 panel to “bypass”
when the condition clears the indicator trip unit must be reset on the unit itself
How does a ARM trip unit function?
trip unit de-energizes relays on trip signal.
How does a loss of power impact the ARM Trip Unit?
Trip Unit de-energizes relays on a trip signal. Loss of power will give same indication as a High Rad condition and downscale condition.
Some ARMs have two inputs to the recorder, in order to provide a full range of indication. Example: Refuel Floor and Charcoal Adsorbers
Some ARMs have 2 inputs to the recorder, in order to provide a full range of indication. Example: Refuel Floor and Charcoal Adsorbers
Where is the ARM Bypass Switch
902-2 panel
How are ARM’s tested?
There is a trip check button on the back panel indicator
What is an ARM Aux Unit?
They are stationed at SOME of the ARM locations to provide a LOCAL alarm and indication of HIGH Level trip
What ARM locations have Aux Units?
RFP rooms 517 RB (TIPS) 517 RB South Access 613 RB RWCU Area Stock COntrol Room RW Control Room RW Barreling Area OGFB Charcoal Adsorber Vault
What is the power for ARM System?
INSTRUMENT BUS - NOT 24/48vdc
