Cellular Respiration Flashcards
What are the three steps of Cellular Respiration?
- Glycolysis
- PDC
- Krebs
- ETC
What happens during Glycolysis?
Glucose gets split into 2 Pyruvates
Glycolysis happens in the
Cytoplasm
What happens during PDC?
Pyruvates get converted into Acetyl-CoA
PDC happens in the
Matrix
What happens during Krebs?
Acetyl-CoA undergoes reaction, producing NADH + FADH2
Krebs happens in the
Matrix
What are NADH + FADH2?
Electron carriers that become oxidized, losing electrons which will bounce between enzymes
What happens to the lost electrons of the NADH + FADH2?
The energy of the released electrons goes from the matrix into intermembrane space
ETC happens in the
Inner mitochondrial membrane
The ETC makes ATP with
Electron carriers
What allows for H+ ions to go from inner membrane to matrix?
The ATP Synthase
How does the ATP Synthase form ATP?
It has ADPs which become ATPs when the Synthase spins
What is Chemiosmosis?
H+ ions passing through special channels in Synthase and spinning axle to make ATP
What is Oxidative Phosphorylation?
ADP being Phosphorylated
