Fat-free, Non-fat, Skim milk
Milk to which sweeter is added Is just as nutritious as unflavored milk. Usually contains about 35 more calories per serving than regular milk
Chocolate Milk (any variety)
Is real dairy milk where the natural milk sugar (Lactose) has been broken down, allowing for easier digestion for people managing with lactose intolerance. It has the same nutrient profile as lactose containing milk
Lactose-free Milk
Is nutrionally the same as conventionally raised milk. The term organic refers to on-farm practices. Those using the “USDA Organic” seal must ensure that milk comes from dairy farm meeting specific criteria for that certification process. All milk produced in the US whether organic or conventional must adhere to the same strict federal standards for quality, purity and sanitation.
Organic Milk
6.5% milkfat
Is made by removing 60% of the water from whole milk. The milk is then homogenized, fortified with Vit D to a level of 25 IU per 1 fl oz, canned and heat sterilized. The addition of Vit A is optional. If added, each fluid ounce must contain not less than 125 IU of vitamin A.
Evaporated Milk
0.5% or less milk fat
Is a concentrated, fortified (vitamins A and D) fat-free milk that is canned and sterilized
Evaporated Fat-free Milk
8% milkfat or less
A canned milk concentrate of whole milk to which sugar has been added. The sweeter used (usually sucrose)prevents spoilage.
