A

We use the verb stand, when you are a candidate someone can vote for.

How do you feel about politics? Well, there’s a lot around @ the moment. One thing, I would like to see in politics, particularly, British, is more women in parliament.
In order to be elected though, you first have to stand, don’t you?
There are number of projects in the UK @ the moment trying to get more women interested in standing for parliament.
She has taken up challenges & is hoping to stand in upcoming elections.

Ever since I’ve just been excited @ the prospect of me standing for parliament.
The prospect of becoming MP, excited her.

Jargon

A

Jargon is the very specific language & vocabulary relating to a particular profession. From outside it can seem very sophisticated

I think everyone has a politician within them because we all get angry about sth, but unfortunately when we see it, it’s all jargon.

Disadvantaged background

A

Growing up in a family that don’t have very much money & that made life & study very difficult.

She came from a disadvantaged background.
Rather than using the jargon you have to tailor the way you speak for everyone.
Cut out the jargon!

To tailor sth

A

To tailor sth is to make it fit-in the same way that tailor makes clothes fit.
To tailor sth is to change it to make it suitable for a particular reason.

You can tailor your language to make it easier to understand.
Rather than use jargon, you have to tailor the way you speak for everyone.
Cut out the jargon!!!
